can't find BitComet once downloaded

Hi there,
I'm trying to download BitComet on my laptop which as Windows Vista on it. It appears to download and even goes to the language installation question, but then after that nothing opens. I went into my start menu and BitComet is not appearing as a new program either. I did successfully download it on my desktop which has Windows XP. Anyone know why it's not working with Vista? I can't imagine you can only download it onto one computer per household?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi i am new to bitcomet and i am very satisfied with download speed the best torrent client. I am using private tracker and i want to make upload seeding for long time, but my question is if i enable LT-Seeding does the program register that traffic and does the tracker also count this because when i make upload/seeding my rating goes up. Also i want to ask when the task finish and LT-Seeding is disabled the program do not show any traffic upload and download but my status window of my connection shows that i am downloading and uploading and when i exit the program that stops.

Very odd BitComet behavoir

I think this is a question for a pro. Someone really smart on this stuff. Maybe a developer or something.

I'm in Afghanistan, for one. I'm on a wireless net that is probably a satellite net connection. Plus there are all kinds of weird communications equipment all around which I'm sure interfere with the signal quite often, but that isn't really what this is about. My point is simply that my internet is unreliable when it comes to speed. There is no set speed. There are many people that use this, and speed varies throughout the day.

Anyways, to my point.

I've been downloading things with BitComet, and I've noticed some odd behavior of the program. I'm not sure if there is a way to fix this. Pretty much, sometimes when I leave my torrents alone and go away from my computer, they stop downloading by themselves. Sort of. It isn't very consistent, but for the most part I have 20-30 torrents open and downloading, and they all end up less than 1 kB/s over time.

Here is the tricky part. I have unlimited number of downloads at a time, and unlimited speed upload/download (I didn't tune this to my net connection because of the variance in speed throughout the day). So... I see all my torrents are less than 1 kB/s, and I right click one of them and select "Properties". I go to the Advanced tab, and click "Share this task in torrent share" and "Enable task specific settings" and keep everything at "Unlimited". Then I click "OK". The torrent that I did this to (within a minute or so) will often skyrocket in speed, and get up to 100-200 kB/s, and gradually work it's way back down to zero over time. WTF? So, I see it at zero a while later. I open Properties, and uncheck those boxes, and hit OK. Then I reopen it, and recheck them. Hit OK. BOOM. Speed again. WTF?

So, in the middle of this email, I just repeated this again. I have one torrent I've been 'speed boosting' for a couple days now and I've downloaded more than I thought was possible on this net connection. It was at 0 kB/s a few seconds ago, I did the steps above, now it's at 53 kB/s and climbing.

I also feel like my messing with the torrent, "giving it attention" so to speak, has an effect. If I see a torrent slowing down and I start randomly clicking peers in my peers tab, it speeds up. It's kinda like I'm causing it to search harder for more peers or something by cracking the whip of my mouse pointer.

This is totally confusing me, I have no idea why my program is behaving like this. I'd like to think that I just have some messed up settings, and I can fix them and get download speeds that are consistently "high" for my net connection, instead of speeds returning back down to zero over time.

Any thoughts?

UDP Port still blocked

Hi,

In the Statistics page of my Bitcomet, it is saying that the TCP listening port 60000 was opened by my router and the UDP Port was blocked by my router still. I am using Bitcomet Version 1.18 stable with windows vista, I have DSL using a router which acts as a network gateway. I have configured both windows firewall and my actual router-Dlink Model DVA3810 to port forwarding as per the guide and still the statistics show that the UDP is being blocked. As per the guide I do have the port mapping off. Why is the one port still blocked?
i never had this problem on win xp or vista. have debugged for a few days. this does not happen if bitcomet is NOT running.
it is not related to my power options, as i leave hard disks 'never' turn off selection.

Windows 7 Troubles

Hello,

I recently installed Windows 7 and downloaded BitComet so I could continue my downloading habits on my new OS. However, I have been having severe issues trying to get my ports open to allow BitComet to download at its full potential.

Currently I am running:

BitComet 1.19
Windows 7 Home Premium
AVG Free Edition 9.0.733

I have ADSL from Embarq / CentryLink

Modem: CentryLink 660 Series
Router: D-Link DIR-615

I have followed every tutorial for port forwarding for my router. I am using no software firewalls except for the default Windows Firewall and I have added the "rules" into it for my ports. My AVG has no built in firewall so there is no issue coming from there.

My problem is, that after everything I have done to ensure the my ports are open and ready to go, I am still getting the "Your listen port is blocked" Yellow Icon from BitComet.

I am using port 58881 as the port for my BitComet.

Any help in this matter as to what is going on would be greatly appreciated. I am at a loss to what the issue is.

Thanks

how to limit upload connections

Hello there. I am new working with Bitcomet(used Utorrent for 5 years but a bug came up...) and i am having a "problem", since i am an uploader\seeder(its a part of my job). Thing is, i upload and seed torrents on public trackers and i would like to limit the number of connected peers to my torrents. Is this making sense? In other words, what happens is that i have like 20 peers at same time connected in each torrent, and some get to 60% file completion and disconnect. How do i limit to, lets say, 10 peers\torrent so theese peers download the whole file? Is there any option or menu i have to check or uncheck? i went through preferences and didn´t found anything related to this issue.
Im not sure if this makes sense to u, sorry for my strange english...im Portuguese and i try my best to make myself understood...

Bit Comet 1.17 causes my browser to crash

Dear friends,

I bought a Sony VAIO laptop operated by Windows 7 recently. I have a broadband connection to the internet. I have installed Bit Comet 1.17. Trouble is that whenever I leave my laptop alone to download movies using Bit Comet 1.17, after a while, my browser will crash and I will be unable to access the internet and the downloading will slow down to just a few KBs. This happens to both my IE and Firefox browsers. I will have to shut down and reboot before my browser will reconnect to the internet again and the downloading will return to its normal speed.

This problem does not happen if I do not turn on my Bit Comet. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Bit Comet 1.17 and it does not get rid of the problem. I have called VAIO and they have advised that it is a software issue with Bit Comet. I have also called my ISP and they have said that my Internet connection is fine.

I am at my wits' end and would be very grateful if you can advise me please ...

Many thanks!!

Bitcomet doesn't work with a router

1) What version of BitComet are you using?--1.02

2) What type of Internet connection do you have (ADSL, etc.)?--Router connected with cables

3) Do you have a modem? Do you use a router? What make and model are each one of them? Have you forwarded your port?--Yes I have a modem, yes I have a router, the modem is Motorola SB5101 and the router is Edimax BR-6424n. What is forwarding a port?

4) If you have more than one router, be sure to mention the make and model of both devices, how are they connected (i.e. in which connector of both devices is the network cable plugged) and which one of the devices is connected to or is the modem.
Also, if you have more than one computer make sure to mention in this case, to which router is every one of them connected.--I only have one router who is connected to the PC and PS3

5) What version of Windows, Firewall and Antivirus do you use?--XP, Window's firewall, AVG antivirus.

6) If you are asking about a specific torrent or file that you have downloaded, make sure that you include the complete torrent name, as well as the complete names of the files and their respective extensions/formats (e.g.: .rar, .wma, .bin, .cue, etc.).--I had problems with everything

7) For speed-related issues, please run various speed tests at a site such as speedtest.net (make sure that no other computer is using your Internet connection and that all other programs - including BitComet - are closed, during the tests). Include the results, along with the settings that you are presently using, in your post, so that we may review and offer suggestions to improve its performance.--Its not the speed, its the fact that nothing works the download stands on like 5 and upload on 6

This is my first post here, and my apologies is this topic already has been discussed. As you can see by my description i am having an issue with my downlaods stopping at 99.9% I have taken to the time to review the FAQs and followed them step by step. I have dowbloaded only the core file(s), avoiding all the non-essentials. I have done manual hash-checks and they remain at 99.9% I very highly doubt that they are corrupted due to the number of Peers/Seeds downloading/hosting the file(s). I have read the comments, reassuring me that the torrent is valid, working and virus free of course. I also have read the part of the DMZ and i am currently connected to a wireless network provided by our condo complex. I was able to download other files with 100% success, but these more common, or requested files seem to stop at 99.9% The FAQs also refer to older versions of BitComet (previous to 1.0), so if there is anything more upto date that i can be referred to, or if someone could suggest something, it would be greatly appreciated..

Thank you

Hi,

Just a quick question abou the "seeds/peers". I'm new to all this although i have read the general fundamentals of torrents on here.

If a have a torrent file, do i have to constantly upload the files so as i become a peer and share them with others ?

Once i'm uploading the file for others do i then become a seed ?

If not how do i become a seed so others can get the files easy ?

Just want to share as much as possible because without sharing we don't get anything!

Firstly I apologise if this topic is one you have delt with before but I have been looking for the answer for two hours on various sites and can not find anything. I have read all the start up and how to topics and they do not help.

I have a torrent client - Bitcomet the latest version. My internet connection is wireless with a good connection and speed of 11.0 Mbps. I am unsure how to forward my 'Port'? My secutrity software is McAfee new this year. My OS is windows XP.
So the problem is, I have recenly downloaded Bitcomet (again) this is the only torrent client on my system. This is downloaded without incident, then I come to find a torrent to download and it goes through the usual windows, download then what is being downloaded, where to save etc, I click download and Bitcomet shows the file active in the window and it looks like there is no problem, only there is nothing being down or up loaded?

I have run out of ways to try and sort this out so please help?

Windows 7 ~ Why is Bitcomet now too slow?

Hi,

Since upgrading to Windows 7 I've noticed that even well seeded torrents are downloading only at a small fraction of the speed they used to in XP.

Does anybody have any ideas why this might be? I guess what I'm asking is; is there any known issue with Windows 7 and Bitcomet?

Thanks for your time.

PCTools firewall blocks Bitcomet listening

System is Vista Home 32, DSL through Siemens Speedstar. Bitcomet 1.17.12.28 works fine with Vista's default firewall. Installed PCTools firewall 6.0.0.88 and cannot get it to allow Bitcomet to listen. Message is "Blocked: 99.40.90.86".

Have scoured the forums here and at PCTools (little info there), also an evening on the net looking for info. Everything I find is either for older versions of the firewall and/or Bitcomet (menus and options are usually different enough to negate the relevance of the instructions) or too generic or too technical.

I've tweaked settings in PCTools firewall to no avail (obviously haven't found the correct one) and, right now, the only solution I have is, when I want to use Bitcomet, to shut down PCTools firewall and enable the default Vista firewall. Returned all PCTools settings to default, as far as I can tell Bitcomet has full access. Tried setting different ports, 49152-65534 range, in Bitcomet, to no avail.

i was just wondering if it is possible to have a auto start setting? i'm in australia with got peak and off peak download limits, i got a program which would restart my pc on a set time but i need the auto start feature which would start my downloads after my pc is restarted, because i already set bitcomet to start when my pc boot up. the problem i see now is it only has a auto resume feature which means the download has to be already running before in order to resume after the restart. or is there a way i can do that with another program?

A Network Cable Is Unplug

Hi All,

I have a modem cable connected to internet 100% of the time.
I also have a D-Link router, DI-525.

I been using BitComet for some years without any problems at all.
For the last 3 days, whenever I start a download with BitComet, my internet stop working for 10 secondes, I can see a pop-up in the icon tray saying "A Network Cable Is Unplug". After ~10 secondes, the internet start working agains and the download start but only last like 1-2 minutes then once again, I get "A network cable is unplug" and the stop switch to 'stop'. Everything that is using internet stop having access to Internet. If I dont start a torrent download, I don't have this issue of network cable or anything else.

I never had that issue before.

Anyone could have an idea what's going on?

Problems with Speed/Connecting to Seeds

Hi there fellow BitComets! Sorry for the long read, just wanted to give you all the details!

This has been an issue for a very long time, and I've finally decided to try and ask the forums about it. Why is it, that when I'm downloading, I can only connect to about 1/4th of the seeds available? Why is my speed, compared to the speed of other peers, so low?

For the sake of testing, today I am using no router or firewall. I normally run my connection through a D-Link DIR-628, and utilizing ESET Smart Security as my firewall. But, today I've got my computer connected through ethernet directly to my modem. I have also disabled my ESET firewall and antivirus for today. I have Comcast High-Speed internet, and test results from SpeedTest.net conducted today report that I have 21.18 Mbps download & 2.94 Mbps upload. (Results link) Additionally, I ran the Glasnost ISP Throttling test. The results report that Comcast is not shaping or throttling my connection. (ISP test results)

I'm running Windows 7 (with windows firewall disabled), and I'm using Bitcomet 1.17 (stable release).

I have attached a screenshot of my Bitcomet, showing the issue I've described. As you can see, for the Couples.Retreat bluray torrent, my Seeds/Peers[all] reports that I am connected to only 13 out of 48 seeds! And if you look at the top left of the Summary tab, it shows my download speed (293 kb/s) as the green triangle, and other peers' speed (approx. 2300 kb/s) as the blue triangle.

Is this normal? Or is there really an issue?

I have also attached a screenshot of my Advanced settings for Bitcomet, showing that my Max connections and Max connections per task are all set at 0 (unlimited). Though, perhaps I am overlooking some other setting that is preventing me from downloading at the fullest capabilities.

Thank you for your time and comments.

Port Forwarding Doesn't Help Speeds

My download speed is 70-90 kilobytes/s, and I want to increase this. I've been able to port-forward BitComet to port 65000. BitComet has the green light, port checkers say it's open. That's all good. But even though it's forwarded, my speeds don't seem to increase (except for my uploading speeds). Here are my specifications:

Internet:
Verizon Online Basic at 768 kilobits/s download and 160 kilobit/s upload (although the modem page tells me my download speed's at 864 kilobits/s)
Westell 6100
Linksys WRT54G (connected through Ethernet)
BitComet 1.17

I've been on Google a lot recently and apparently I'm connecting through a Double Nat. I have tried switching my Westell to Bridge mode, but everytime I do, my Internet is killed and I have to switch back to router mode for my Internet to work again. I've collected that a Double Nat does not help me torrent.

I like to download games and things like that, so I'm downloading a 3 gig game, and it's going at 70-90 kilobytes/s, which is roughly what I should be getting. I'm also uploading at 5-10 kilobytes/s, which is also what I should be getting. But I don't want to be going that slowly! I want to go faster. If I stay at 70-90 kilobytes/s, it's going to need at least 10 hours to finish. The bottom line is, my download speeds are no different when BitComet is port-forwarded, and I want them to get faster.

Where are the peers? (plus memory consumption problems)

Hello
I am using Bitcomet 1.15
I a have a 8 Mbit ADSL internet connection connecting wirelles to my router....
Windows XP SP2, AVG Antivirus 8.0, Spybot Resident Shield, Windows Firewall (Bitcomet exception added)

As you can see in the picture attached, in the Seed/Peer column all of my torrents have 0/0 status even those that are active and downloading such as Michael Jackson Videography that says at download 5kb/s. Also I cannot understand why at the same column everything is [0/***]. This is supposed to be the theoritical peers and the last torrent (Law and order.uk) has had 157 peers and 255 seeders. What is wrong???
My sister who leaves in a different place at the same time and for the same torrent has [3/123]

Another problem is that Bitcomet eats a vast amount of memmory that is gradually getting larger. When I oppen it it starts with 41 MBs and after 15 minutes takes 190 MBs and raising by the second (the numbers were taken by Windows Task Manager) is that normal???

I am downloading a torrent that has 1 seed. The speed of this torrent is about that of a slug on a hot dry rock but in spite of that I cannot catch up to the other users. When it comes my way it rolls in at about 170k
The file is 2 gigs coming in 4 meg blocks.... yellow status light (normal for here as no-one knows the router password) This has never happened on any other file... it is just odd enough to want to understand it.

The Infamous Yellow Light

Hi, I've been using BC for a few months now and I have never been able to get rid
of the infamous yellow light on the Listen Port.

Here are the particulars of my setup:

OS: Vista Home Premuium (fully updated)
Router: None
IPS: AT&T
Connection Type: HSPA 3G wireless modem
BC Version: 1.17

I have tried the WikiFaq and the Create Firewall Guide.
I have manually configured the UPNP Port as well as allowed
all the BC related programs in the firewall.

I still get the yellow light.

Could this be because my modem gets a dynamically assigned IP?
Does anyone know how can I get rid of the yellow light?

Thanx

Complete loss of all torrents

My copy of bit comet had been working well for many months but just prior to my vacation the program would lockup and I would be forced to close the program and re load from the disk. This went on for a couple of weeks and no loss of data was detected. I went away for a couple of weeks and on my return I booted up and to my surprise my bit comet page was blank. All my torrents at various stages of download had been deleted. I used windows explorer to search for the downloads on the C drive and they were all still there as they had been prior to the holidays. My problem is I am not sure what to do to get this information and the torrents from the archive back to the bitcomet screen. I have limited confidence so I would appreciate a set by step solution for a bitcomet dummy.
Many thanks

Wierd Problem For Last 1 Month

I'm posting according to format given here- http://www.cometforums.com/forum-5/announcement-1-read-this-before-posting/

1) What version of BitComet are you using?
BitComet 1.16

2) What type of Internet connection do you have (ADSL, etc.)?
Broadband 256 KB/s (So download speed is around 35-40 KB/s)

3) Do you have a modem? Do you use a router? What make and model are each one of them? Have you forwarded your port?
Seimens, yes port forwarded correctly.

4) If you have more than one router, be sure to mention the make and model of both devices, how are they connected (i.e. in which connector of both devices is the network cable plugged) and which one of the devices is connected to or is the modem.
Also, if you have more than one computer make sure to mention in this case, to which router is every one of them connected.
No just 1.

5) What version of Windows, Firewall and Antivirus do you use?
Windows Firewall off. Just Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 Firewall along with Anti-virus.

6) If you are asking about a specific torrent or file that you have downloaded, make sure that you include the complete torrent name, as well as the complete names of the files and their respective extensions/formats (e.g.: .rar, .wma, .bin, .cue, etc.).
Not applicable.

7) For speed-related issues, please run various speed tests at a site such as speedtest.net (make sure that no other computer is using your Internet connection and that all other programs - including BitComet - are closed, during the tests). Include the results, along with the settings that you are presently using, in your post, so that we may review and offer suggestions to improve its performance.
Not speed related problems.

Problem:
This has been happening for last 1 month. I have been using BitComet for 1 year without problem.
But what happens is BitComet downloads more data than total file size and it takes unusually long time to complete download.
For eg. Yesterday I kept 100 songs in 1 torrent file to download, size- 750 MB. It usually takes around 5-6hrs to complete such data. But when I got up I saw that "down size" was showing 500 MB and "size left "around 450 MB. So total around 950 MB. Unusual when total size is just 750 MB.
I stopped, did hash check and restarted Bitcomet and router.
Then again same problem.
When it was around 95 MB left. I stopped and restarted but instead of 95 MB at the end it showed 120 MB downloaded.
What is BitComet downloading??

What I think?? I think BitComet downloads too many pieces at once and then deletes some pieces (because seeders disappear) and re-downloads them. Just what I think. Its a big problem because my download speed is too less.

Please help!!

Windows 7 x64 + Bitcomet : Favourites trackers problems

Hi dear,

I just install W7 x64 & Bitcomet 1.17 on a new computer. I've used Bitcomet since beta releases but now i've a problem configuring Bitcomet to different users on W7 profiles.

I edited the fav_es.xml adding my favourites torrent tracker's sites but couriously, some user can't load it.

The bitcomet installation folder is the same for all of them (c:\Program files(x86)\Bitcomet\...) and the "fav" folder is in it. I just edited the fav_es.xml file and, (in theory) all bitcomet executed in all profiles can load it when the users selects the correct language (spanish in my case so as a mother tongue). But some users load it correctly and others can't do it. In this case just appears the default fav file (root user for example).

żAnybody know what is happening or what can i do?

So My ISP is Getting on My Nerves.........

A few weeks ago my ISP (TPG) sent me emails telling me to 'cease illegal activites' and that they would cut off my internet (the emails were about downloading GTA 4 and Batman: Arkham Asylum). This has never happened before and my Dad is not happy.

I need to know how to stop this. Is there anyway I can stop them from monitoring me or will they just stop caring eventually? Do they monitior specific torrents or if they catch you once they'll keep an eye on you? If I forced my listen port to yellow could it prevent this?

Thanks.

EDIT: It probably started when my friend made me download MW2. I didn't even want that stupid game and I think TPG sent me an email about that first.

Scheduler Issue in BitComet v 1.17

I've searched in the forums and found similar posts made by members; but still none of them exactly helped me out. I'm using BitComet for the past 2 years; and I'm more than satisfied by it's performance. Yet, I need assistance in a couple of things, if possible:

1. From the V1.15 (or so), the scheduler in BitComet fails to auto-stop at the scheduled time. I've set it to turn all traffic to null at 8 A.M. everyday; but the latter versions just jeep on doing their work, just like in the peak times. If I stop a certain task (inside the time slot where it should be idle, say 8.10 A.M. in my case) and try to resume; it works fine, showing the gray triangle; as 'queued, awaiting proper time schedule'. But if I am to do so manually; what's the point of a scheduler!

I've checked with some other torrent applications like Bit & U-torrent; where the application is perfectly synchronized with the system clock.

BitComet being lightning fast; it can do quite a damage on my time & amount limited connection So, kindly help me out here.

2. My system & ISP configurations are given below; is there any possible way(s) to hike my traffic rates (other than port forwarding and the tweaks provided in forums, because I've tried them all) ?

Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0 & AMD Sempron 2.2
Windows XP sp3 & sp2
2 GB DDR1(533 MHz) & 1 GB DDR1(400 MHz)

2Mbps Broadband connection (Dynamic IP)
Nokia-Siemens C-2110 ADSL (UPnP enabled)

I used to get around 250kBps (Download) about a year ago in BitComet; which now dropped to 200-210kBps. The rates are high with other downloads like an accelerator assisted download (and hence it rules out the ISP bandwidth capping, I guess). I'm not behind any proxy or firewall & I'm using Eset NOD v 3.0.64.

3. Apart from the moving of the servers; BitComet takes quite a long time to log in (BC passport; current score: 11607) & to have a lock in the port status. It often get stuck in the 'blocked' status, and I've to recheck multiple times to get a green.

4. I've come across many third-party tools that boast to speed-up the BitComet, but is there any truth in their claim ?

P.S. : Of all the tweaked torrent tools I've used; BitComet is the clear winner. I don't know how you guys do it; but BC is faster about 20-25kBps than Vuze, Bit/U Torrent & Bit Spirit; in my connection. Hats off to you for that.

Bitcomet Downloads Very Slow 24/7 - Pl. Help!!

Hi There:
Broadband Connection Bandwidth Reading 2.05 Mbps
MBAM (Updated) also came up negative for any malware
Static IP Address Setup
Passed SheildsUp TruStealth Analysis
Using Ports Between 45134 - 65534 (No matter which I try it comes back Port Unknown)

I did check throughout your Forum but found nothing much of relevance, excepting one new posting with inadequate info to begin with. It sounded very little like my problem thus the new thread. However, this is my first posting, and I have tried to comply with all your rules, including reading them a few times over just to be sure. Despite this I am not sure if you have all the info you need above, but I have tried to put in everything I could think of.

My situation is that I have successfully used Bitcomet from v. 65 and have had my share of problems but worked them out. My download speeds would go through ups and downs, as is the case depending on the number of seeds etc. But the download speeds were decent in my opinion. For the past 8 days or so no matter what I have tried my speed varies but averages about 10kB/sec and this is only with a single download. Uploads tend to stay at about 9 but there have been times when the upload speed was higher than the download speed (even though I have not changed the Bitcomet setup from when the downloads were coming in at reasonable speeds). My direct downloads for freeware etc. continue to download at a pretty decent speed i.e. 250-285 kB/sec even presently.

After reviewing my Bitcomet settings and comparing them to what is recommended I couldn't see anything which could be the culprit. And I have run the tests (Max Planck, ShieldsUP, and one other which I forget) to check if it is my ISP which is throttling me. And they all come back negative. Despite this even if the ISP is throttling me, I can't believe that as a business they will do so 24/7. Where I live ISPs have legally won the right for traffic shaping. And I can live with peak hour throttling but not this 24/7, I think it would be bad business sense. But thats just me!!

The one thing which changed things temporarily was when I reviewed my half-open connections and successfully increased them to 50. The speed jumped in about 30 seconds to 135-155 kB/sec. I was somewhat thrilled. When I checked two hours later, it was back to the same old pokey speed.

I do not know too much about P2P, just manageable I would say. Because of this I have also attached a graphic of my Bitcomet Advanced Setup. Even though I don't know too much I had not been disappointed so far. Now it is a different story. My suspicion is there is some malware issue, though I could very well be wrong. But I would be most grateful if you can provide any help. And yes, I have considered going for a VPN, but I can't do that right now.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Best

Problems attempting to make a torrent

Hello all,

I'm a new member here and havent really got the hang of this torrent thing yet, this query may have been asked before on this site but I wouldnt recognise the solution if its already been posted so if you would please bear with me.

Techy bits: Im currently using

BitComet V1.09
ADSL / modem
Win XP (SP3)/ Zonealarm 8.0.065 / Avast 4.8 Home

Ok, heres what I did, this was my first attempt to try and upload a torrent. I had some .mp3 files of a BBC Radio4 detective drama called McLevy that I was going to attempt to upload to a site so a friend in America could hear them

I opened the bitcomet v1.09 program and then went to
file > make torrent

when the torrent maker pop up appeared I selected
general tab > Directory (multifiles)

and then browsed through to the audio folder where I kept the .mp3 files I wanted to convert to a torrent for uploading, which I then selected.
D:\My Music\ITunes\Spoken Word\BBC\McLevy\McLevy - Series 5

On the pop up the following boxes were ticked by default
Add DHT, Align File, Enable search, Calculate ED2k

in the output box the generated file would be
D:\My Music\ITunes\Spoken Word\BBC\McLevy\McLevy - Series 5.torrent

I then clicked on make torrent, which it then did and the torrent appeared on the bitcomet page

however the original folder containing the .MP3 files disappeared and in my bitcomet download folder one appeared containing the same audio files only with the file extension .bc!

on the bitcomet programme it displayed 0 % progress and seed/peer/all as 0/0/1

As I thought you had to make your torrent before you could send it to the website I was a bit suprised when this happened so I stopped and went back to see where i had gone wrong only to find that the audio folder containing my original files was no longer present and had been replaced by this file
McLevy - Series 5.torrent

Using windows search I looked for the original source files but could only find the .bc! files in the bitcomet download folder, the .torrent file in the original audio folder and another copy of the same torrent file and a .xml file in
C:\Program files\Bitcomet\torrents

so my questions are....

where are my original source files?
how can i get them back?
if i can, could somebody help me do this properly?

please contact me either via this reply or via [deleted by Mod]hotmail.com asap as I dont want to lose these files if i can help it

heres hoping
