      READ THIS before posting

Please READ THIS before asking Before posting for help on this forum, please consider checking the Wiki FAQ topics, since most of the usual problems which users usually encounter are already answered in there. However, if you cannot find your answer in there, then read the next lines before you make your post. The following basic information is Essential, in order to be able to help you with any concern/question. Please, be sure to provide all the information said below, each time that you expose a new topic. 1) What version of BitComet are you using? 2) What type of Internet connection do you have (3G , ADSL 3 Mbs, Optical Fiber, etc.)? If you are using WWAN or any type of connection that uses a cellular type of long distance wireless (not including your own personal Wi-Fi network) then be sure to mention this first. 3) Do you have a modem (Make and Model required)? Do you use a router (Make and Model required)? If so, have you forwarded your port? Do you have any VoIP or telephone devices connected? 4) If you have more than one router, be sure to mention the make and model of both devices, how are they connected (i.e. in which connector of both devices is the network cable plugged) and which one of the devices is connected to or is the modem. Also, if you have more than one computer make sure to mention in this case, to which router is every one of them connected. 5) What version of Windows, Firewall and Antivirus do you use? Is your Windows 32 bit or 64 bit? 6) Are you using any type of IP filtering or protection software like Peerblock or ProtoWall? 7) If you are asking about a specific torrent or file that you have downloaded, make sure that you include the complete torrent name, as well as the complete names of the files and their respective extensions/formats (e.g.: .rar, .wma, .bin, .cue, etc.). 8) For speed-related issues, please run various speed tests at a site such as speedtest.net (make sure that no other computer is using your Internet connection and that all other programs - including BitComet - are closed, during the tests). Include the results, along with the settings that you are presently using, in your post, so that we may review and offer suggestions to improve its performance. The lack of said information will result, as direct consequence, in your post being ignored and/or deleted, leaving way to a clean and tidy forum, for those who follow the rules. Please, make sure that the post's title gives an indication of the problem ("Help!" or "I Have a Problem" are not good indicators...). Remember to include the maximum amount of detailed information (speed test results, the settings that you're using, which Tutorial/s you have followed, etc.) possible - the more, the better. Thank you for your cooperation. Regards. The BitComet Team

      Has your post been answered?

There are many reasons why posts are not answered. 1. Our forum is staffed by professionals who volunteer their time to help the file sharing community. We are not obligated to help anyone, but if you take the time to learn, and follow the rules, you will find us all very willing to help you. 2. If you don't review the rules for submitting support request, then you can expect either no reply, or a reply instructing you to read the rules. Such topics only waste our time, and we help members who read the rules first. 3. We all have our working schedule, as well as other activities that consume our time, and we help out here as much as time allows, so if you did not receive an answer to your topic, make sure you provided the required information, and if necessary, you may send me a PM and I will review the topic. Some forums have a "READ THIS before posting" announcement. This takes 30 seconds to read, so there is no excuse for not providing the information we need to help you. Please also understand, this is not "all" the information we may need, its simply the absolute minimum info needed to even begin to assist you. Sincerely, The BitComet Team

All of a sudden... BitComet has stopped downloading

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon Everyone!!

I'm using the latest version of BitComet I can find 1.47 (64Bit) on a Windows 7 Pro (64 Bit) with a with an external drive that is plugged into my Linksys EA6400... Everything has been working fine for ages and then I decided to add a VPN tunnel called SecureLine VPN from Avast... This addition seemed to work beautifully for about 2 weeks. I was getting the "yellow lite" on the Port Blocked section for ages before I added the SecureLine VPN and if I turn off my Windows Firewall it becomes green... I have tried many different things to make the "yellow lite" go away, but that isn't the issue that I am writing about.

Yesterday, I had a problem with a specific movie is was trying to download from several different torrent providers, where I would get 99.9% complete and it would stay there... I checked a bunch of "TV shows" and they worked yesterday. Today... nothing will download! I tried several different torrent providers, more than one "Torrent Download" piece of software and still nothing.

I have been up and down all of your forums, your support pages and checked out the Wiki profile as well... I don't know if it's our internet provider has become smarter with their restrictions, or what???

I have the same problem if I turn off the firewall on the computer and on the router...

Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated,

JLMitchell63

What I had to do at one stage was to give the computer a fixed LAN IP number and set up port forwarding in the router to match the fixed IP number and then set BC to use that port (it's best to make it one that's never used - mine is in the 5 figure area - ie, higher than 10,000)

99.9% however tends to suggest that the download isn't completing rather than not working. I do know that happens if the A/V catches a keygen or patch file that it's suspicious of (it wipes that particular file). It shouldn't happen in movie files though

Sometimes, if a small file is included (for example, the typical "Read me"  or "Snapshots" file) in the task, but is unchecked by you, BitComet (as well as any other client) will not consider the task complete and, thus will not show 100%. This may also happen if the task contains an archive of TV episodes, where you have opted to de-select some of them (for whatever reason). Since torent pieces will NOT download sequentially, you may have, say, most of Episode 2 except the very end pieces, which may be grouped together in the beginning cluster of bits, belonging to Episode 3. Since you originally opted not to download Episode 3, you will not be able to finish the download of Episode 2 completely. This is the reason why it is not recommended to de-select any files that are comprised in the original task. In your case, however, the file, however, may still be able to be viewed...something you could check out anyway.

As Rhubarb mentioned, when you forward your port, you should make sure that you establish a static IP address. This will enable other distant peers (not "Local", or those that you initiated contact with) to locate your specific connection at a static/stable location. Think of it as telephone call, where your IP is your phone number. You can make/initiate calls to others, but if your number changes (IPs often do, in most home/dynamic connections, without you even noticing), others will not be able to initiate calls to you, for the simple reason that your phone number is no longer where you originally said it was. When you choose a port number (the same one for UDP and DTP, not a complete range), as previously stated, choose one that is superior to, say 65,000, that hardly anyone else commonly opts to choose.

Oh and, by the way, turn your firewall(s) all back ON - they're there for a reason - it's not a good idea to disable them. Turning them OFF is like taking your front door off the hinges, just because you're having problems with the lock... (this phrase is not originally mine...it's original poster used to be one of our best Tech. Support members)... so, don't be surprised if you spot undesired "beasties" running around your PC's insides, afterwards.

As you have mentioned above about your green light, I can provide you a solution as per your situation ... you said that the when you turnoff the Windows Firewall you see green light comes up then the port forwarding is properly set on your router, The thing is that you need to open a Inbound rule for the specific port you are using on bit comet, after this you will see the green light come back.. Now 99.9% downloading can be cause by various things, Some of them have already mentioned above by other users.

My guess is that you are not getting the last chunk of files from your seeders.. you can use Seedr.com to download files up to 8GB into the cluod storage and download then back into your pc using IDM or any download client.. Its free service but you need to do some of the task like sharing in Facebook page to obtain 8GB of storage free forever, Im using this scene 2 years.. if you want my id for some time i am ready to share with you.. Message me..
