tvwwer1
so i opened a torrent which has 26 video files for download. I only selected the 1st video so downloading only 1 file out of the 26 files. Now the torrent has NO seeds at all but it has many peers and I am able to start downloading. What my question is since i have no seeds at all it just basically means i can't download the WHOLE torrent meaning all 26 video files to 100% but just cuz i have no seeds the many peers mean i still have a chance to download this ONE file 100%? right? greywizard
A torrent swarm needn't have necessarily seeds in order for you to be able to download the full contents of the torrent. If the overall torrent health of the swarm (torrent availability) is above 1.0 then you should be able to complete your download. Availability stands for the number of aggregate copies of the pieces that make up that torrent. Even if they are spread among many peers, if added up they amount to more than 1.0 complete copies, that should be enough. As for a specific file, if availability is above 1.0 then you can download any file you want, if it's below 1.0 then it's a game of luck. You might be able to get it but it may be very probable to miss a couple of pieces or more and your file won't be finished.
