"DEAD IN ITS TRACKS" Before Finishing!

Recommended Posts

What causes a torrent to stop downloading "dead in its tracks" before it finishes???? I'm doing two torrents that went all the way to 98.8% finished but WILL GO NO FURTHER! They haven't increased the slightest amount in three days! WEIRD and THOROUGHLY disgusting!

Without more information we cannot begin say with any certainty. I suggest you start by reading the "READ THIS before posting" thread and then post some info about the specific tasks that don't finish including the seed/peer counts and look at the level of completion of other peers, see if they are also stuck at the same level.

You can also look in our FAQs at wiki.bitcomet.com where we've prepared an article that deals with this.

Also, in some rare cases when using VIP or some of bitcomets other advanced features an unseeded torrent may download from non-bittorrent sources. If this is the case you may have completely downloaded the key files in the torrent but not a small text file that many torrents contain and without that small file it will never read as 100% even though the important files are complete even if they don't read as complete in the client.

There are many causes for this and in this specific case if you got the torrents from a fake piratebay website the torrents are probably poisoned, designed to fail in order to harass you.

There are reasons why a real torrent could do this too, one cause is when users disable small files like .nfo, .txt or .jpg files that they don't want therefore they don't become true seeders and and the torrents die a premature death. There are also other conditions that can cause this problem that are outlined in our wiki.bitcomet.com website, some of them are a well known router issue where data in one or more bittorrent pieces are rewritten because it's mistaken for your IP address and changed to match your local IP and in this case the piece of data will be rejected after failing hash check and redownloaded in an endless cycle. Another cause is a simple lack of seeders, if all the other peers are stuck at this level or below and you have no seeds, it will never finish unless a seed returns or the data can be located elsewhere. There are also cases where anti virus or security software deletes part of one of your data pieces. This is common when a torrent contains hacks, patches, keygens, activators etc... usually is a false positive detection so in this case if you want the torrent to complete you have to allow the detection in your AV software for it to complete. This case can be confirmed if you look at what file/s are incomplete. Also keep in mind that in many cases even small disabled files need to be downloaded in order to complete the torrent
