lopera
Hola! Until a few days ago, BitComet would download perfectly for me ... I have the router's ports open and everything worked like a charm. One day, all of a sudden, BitComet stoped detecting the ports and now I have the gray light saying "Unknown" (Listen port status unknown). I have a [well-configured]/proper IP and have opened new ports, to see if that solved it, but it remain[ed] the same. I have the router and firewall properly configured. I have Ares and it works well. I've put/placed the Ares' port for BitComet and it keeps telling me 'listen port unknown'. I've read on the Internet that the same thing is happening to others, but nobody knows the 'why' of it. I've also tested the port and it says 'correct'. Until a weeek ago, version 1.09 was working perfectly. Can you tell me what is the matter with BitComet?

How do I upgrade BitComet? Do I have to remove/[uninstall] version 1.09, which I have, and [install] 1.16? I already have a ball and a moon, in the BitComet Register. Would I lose that? cassie
You can read about the reason that your ports were appearing as 'unknown' (gray circle) here.
kluelos
You can install any version of BitComet right over any other version. All of your individual preferences and data are stored in .xml files which don't get overwritten, so all of this will remain. If you WANT to get rid of it all for a clean installation, then you have to delete the program directory manually, after uninstalling. If you want to back up your settings for any reason, simply copy the .xml files from the program directory. Later versions of BitComet have an "export" and "import" function for some of this, but it doesn't help if one or both of the versions in question don't have that.
