Queuing files within a torrent

If i am downloading a torrent that has 10-20 files in it like, like episodes in a season, and i want the torrent to download episode 1, then 2 and so on, how can i do tat in comet?

i know it can queue 3,4 torrents but what about files in a torrent.

To say this is a bad idea is an understatement. If you don't understand why, then you don't really understand how torrents work so it might be difficult to explain, but imagine when your doing your grocery shopping and have 100 items on your list, so you walk ever single isle in the store until you get to the milk, because it's #1 on your list. You just passed bread, vegtables, fruit, cereal, frozen foods and got none of it even though you know you needed it because you've decided it's a better idea to get them in order. Now that you got your milk, next is coffee, so you start at the beginning and walk every isle again until you get coffee...

Besides the fact that my identical shopping list was filled in a fraction of the time, you're going to be tired and worn out haveing spend a lot more resources getting the same order filled because you had this notion it was more efficient to get the item in order instead of getting what is offered to you at the time, or right in front of you, not to mention the fact that you passed the bananas six times and decined to take some, but now that you want bananas, there are none, so you have to stand and wait until someone shows up with some, which may never happen.... its very possible the person with the files that represent the bananas shut down his computer and won't be online until tomorrow.

Bittorrent also adds another "twist" to this complicated ordeal and as odd as it sounds, in order to get "milk", you need to get a small piece of banana, and in order to get banana, you need a small piece of milk, so if you get them separate, you're going to be getting those "boundary pieces" twice.

Additionally, BitComet already has an option to set priority of files, if you are downloading a series, you can set the first couple episodes at high priority and they will finish first, so you can begin to watch them while the rest download. I still believe even this option is unwise to use, but it's not nearly as bad as downloading one file at a time.

The most efficient way to download a torrent is to take the pieces that are offered to you as long as you need them. In some torrents there are thousands of pieces, and any peer is going to lose interest in you as a trading partner if you continue to deny any pieces offered to you because you don't want it yet, then by the time you do want it, you're not going to have any good peers willing to trade with you.

I do understand why you would want to get the files one at a time, but if that is really that important, then I suggest you not use torrents, use a different protocol that downloads files instead of pieces of files like bittorrent does, and don't try to change the one thing about bittorrent that makes it great. Just let it do it's job and download the torrents as they were meant to be downloaded. Everyone will be happier that way, including you.

Anyway, just to answer your question, you CAN do that in the properties page of the task.

The other fact contrary to that you want to watch it during the downloading is that you afraid the episodes sequence will not come up correctly and your media player therefore will not play it according to the real sequence.

If this is the case and it was not really arranged correctly after the downloading has finished, then all waht you have to do is to change the files name to something like E.01, E.02, etc (Do not change the extention) and windows will sort it for you correctly, However you shouldn't do that meanwhile seeding, and if you want to watch it at the time when you are seeding it, then copy the whole torrent to another location and change the files name in the copy version then watch it from there.

The reason the names are different is most of these torrents are released following "scene" rules, and the torrent is named by the release group that did the encoding and sharing it after changing the name is against the rules and will get you banned from most torrent trackers. Think of it as if someone gave you an original painting and you removed their name from it and added your own, it's not allowed, even if the reasons for renaming are benign, as in your case. If you have no plans to share, then renaming is ok, if you want to rename them without losing the original name, you can add a number to the beginning of the file name, then they will be sorted by that number.

And changing the name is not against any rules and will not get you banned from any torrent trackers as long as you did your share of seeding it, which usually 1.5 to 2 times the amount you downloaded, thogh in my case I make sure that it is not less than 4-6 times, just to show my appreciation to the uploader and help the community for faster download.

In the matter of fact after you finish seeding the torrent and removing it from the seeding list in the torrent client (such as BitCommet), no one will ever know (except yourself) what happend to this torrent, which probably is going to be deleted after watching it (well, that is in my case too).

Only the original encoder can name a release, anyone who alters the name will be banned from all the good torrent trackers. If you want to rename it, that's fine, just don't share it.

ps. The reason for my post seems to have eluded you, which was to explain why episodes are named differently in a collection of episodes. If the uploader renamed them so they all used the same exact format, he would be in violation of rules, so in some cases windows won't sort the torrents in order, if the names aren't alphanumerically ordered.
