Puerto de Escucha

Recommended Posts

Ficha Técnica Fabricante: Mitrastar Modelo: Mitrastar HGW-2501GN-R2 Firmware: ES_B14.

Good afternoon to all.

I'm new at the forums and since I don't know where to post the help that I need and, since it has to do with the listen port, I'm putting it here. :)

I use BitComet 1.37.

I use one listen port for BitComet (22991). In Options/Connection, I have the boxes Add exception to Windows Firewall and Activate the assignment of ports UPnP checked/activated.

In Network Assistant, also have the box 'My computer is behind a Firewall/NAT, it's necessary to add an assignation of ports' checked/activated.

My router: I'm with Movistar (Telefónica), and I do it through the Alejandra portal [it's an easy-to-use-site, provided by Telefónica to access your HomeStation Router...]. I have optical fibre.

Router Technical Specs:

Maker - Mitrastar

Model - HGW-2501GN-R2

Firmware - ES_B14. Valid Firmware.

Router - Connected

Status - Configuration valid

Once inside the Alejandra portal, I access Configurations/ Ports

Opening of ports

Introduce the values for the opening of a new port:

Internal IP

Select the type of port opening that most suits you. Single port Range of ports

Next, introduce the internal and external ports:

22991

The IP address changes every time I reboot the PC (it sometimes changes)

I hit Acept and then go to Pending operations, I accept and it's supposed to configure the router with what I had entered.

I go to Windows Firewall (I have Windows 10 - it updated recently, (before, I had Windows 8.1))

Inasfar as permitting an application or a characteristic through the Windows Firewall, I have a BitTorrent Client (private and public), BitComet TCP 22991 (private and public) and BitComet UDP22991 (private and public) BitComet's boxes checked/activated.

In Advanced Firewall configuration, I added 2 incoming rules (BitComet TCP 22991 and BitComet UDP 22991).

Once inside the Properties of these rules, under General (I have the option 'permit the connection')

In Protocol and ports (under Local Port it says: Specific ports (22991), under Remote ports: all of the ports, Profile Advanced Options: I have the Domain, Private and Public boxes all checked,

Also, under Rules of entry, there appear 4 rules: BitComet - a BitTorrent Client, 2 TCP and 2 UDP, but there is one of each that is unchecked.

Under Enable/Disable Windows Firewall: in Private Network configuration I have it set asActivate Windows Firewall (Notify me when Windows blocks a new application) and in Public Network Configuration, I have it the same as the Privateone.

Program Version: 10.3.2223

Virus Database version: 150815-2

Number of definitions: 4.031.195

In Avast!, I go to Tools/Firewall (I have it activated), I have it in the private network and where it states the latest programs permitted by the Firewall, BitComet appears.

Recently, we had to change the router (I can't remember the model) because it overheated, and with the other one, I didn't have any problems in setting the incoming port for BitComet with the green light, but with this one it's really giving me a hard time. I want the downloads to be faster, but I need a reply that is clear and detailed and one that I can understand because, with these things, I'm quite ignorant.

Thank you very much and I await a reply soon.

Greetings from Spain :)

What does BitComet say on the "statistics" tab under "upnp port mapping"?

Statistics? I don't see any tab that says Statistics. If you can tell me where to find it, I can tell you what it says. :)

It appears that bitcomet cannot detect your router in order to enable Universal Plug n Play (uPnP). The normal solution to this is manual portforwarding, but since you seem to be having problems with that too it may be a good idea to investigate why uPnP is not working. First step is to make sure the router supports this function and that it's enabled in the router. I had a quick look on their website but since my knowledge of Spanish is poor I wasn't able to find any useful information for you, but if you can get someone from the routers tech support to confirm that the device does support uPnP and to assure that it is enabled, next you'd have to make sure your firewall isn't blocking the uPnP function.

Alternately you may be able to get someone from the routers tech support to help you diagnose why the manual portforwarding isn't working.

Here is the website I located for your model of router...

http://www.movistar....ters/mitrastar/

EDIT:

I also found this page that explains exactly how to enable uPnP, although I'm unsure if it is your exact router model, but it does appear they have a support forum so I'm sure they would be willing to help you.

http://comunidad.mov...R2/td-p/2475358

They appear to offer technical manuals as well as Chat with company reps. I'm not sure if you'll find the help you need there or not since I'm unable to read their technical documents there is little I can do to help. .

I would also recommend trying this (sorry this website is English)

https://techjourney....pnp-in-windows/

http://www.movistar....ters/mitrastar/

Editado:

http://comunidad.movistar.es/t5/Soporte-T%C3%A9cnico-de-Fibra-%C3%93ptica/Activar-UPnP-en-router-HGW-2501GN-R2/td-p/2475358

In my first post I stated the ports that I used. I used the same port for UDP and TCP (Option: Only one port). My IP changes each time that I reboot my PC.

I went into my router (Alejandra portal)--> Firewalls, and added the rules that I stated before. Lastly, I went into avast! antivirus' firewall.

With the old router, everything worked well but with this one I don't know why it doesn't work.

My router´s model is Mitrastar Mitrastar HGW -2501GN-R2

Honestly, I [get] what you are telling me in English but, the browser's own translator is ver poor... what I mean is that there are things that I didn't understand.

Everything that I told you before is what's on the router, firewall and antivirus...I don't know if it's all correct or if something has to be changed. I don't know what to do. Of the 20 movies that I'm downloading, it's only downloading one and at a minimal speed... and I'm tired...so much time for one single movie.

I'd like to find the solution already.

I appreciate all of your help :)

Buenas noches.

Good evening.

In the first place, you don't have to worry about the translations from English to Spanish (and vice versa), as I take care of this. The only thing is that you have to have a bit of patience as, we are all altruistic volunteers and we answer when we have time, besides living in different time zones.

Now, as The UnUsual Suspect has told you, he hasn't found much information about your specific router in English (which is what he speaks) that would be useful to you and he's given you links where they offer support in Spanish.

I, having the same ISP as you, that is to say, Movistar, also can't tell you much about your router as optic fibre isn't available where I live. What I can say is that, although I also have a HomeStation(different model than yours), in my opinion, they're a real piece of "doo-doo" and what Movistar does is use routers that only they use, they configure and they control...unless you change its configuration (something that they absolutely hate - that's why, when you ask them for aid, the first thing that they tell you is "oh, but because you have changed the password, forwarded the ports, etc., etc., we can't fix it for you from here").

By the way, have you established a "static" IP, yourself? (I DON'T mean that you ask Movistar for one - no way!!... else they'll charge you an excessive amount of additional $$, to do something that they neither understand and they'd take advantage of adding something else that you don't need, solong as they cold charge you more.) Did you you it with your old router? I ask because if you have a dinamic IP (like the majority of people), it's normal for your IP address to change every time you reboot your computer.

I'm aware of the issue with your IP sometimes changing when you restart. If this is your local (LAN) IP you can fix it by setting up a static IP in windows. If your external (WAN) IP is changing, that is controlled by your ISP but shouldn't be a problem with opening your listening port. However since you said that you never had any problems until you changed routers that tells me that you were probably using uPnP to open your port before, but now it's not working. You've told me that you have enabled uPnP in bitcomet, but it also has to be enabled in the router, and in windows firewall. I sent you links explaining how to do this and if you are very lucky that might open your port and since it will be done automatically each time you start your PC, it won't matter if your IP changes.

I suggest you follow the links I sent you in the previous message, enable uPnP in your router first then shut down and unplug all your equipment and restart. If the port is still blocked then enable uPnP in windows firewall. If that doesn't work the next step would be to request help in the movistar forum.

Good afternoon.

Sorry that I'm replying a bit late but I had a problem with the computer...I had to change the fan, thermal[paste?], etc.,...

Searching on the Internet, I read that enabling uPnP can't be done through the Alejandra portal - it has to be done through the IP address 192.168.1.1 . These past days, I changed the password to the portal, in order to get rid of it from there but, I can't access 192.168.1.1 via/with any browser... they talk about protection and security. From 192.168.1.1 one could enable uPnP but my question is, how can I access it? I'm not sure if the problem would be enabling uPnP.

I took a look at the links that you gave me [but], as I said before, I'm a bit clumsy with this port business... you'll have to forgive me.

Honestly, the router belongs to my parents, but I can "access" the Alejandra portal and, from there, I opened the ports...but as I said before, from there, the uPnP cannot be enabled.

What do you mean that my listen port is blocked and my UDP port is opened? I get confused with the business of TCP and UDP.

I hope that this is not a great inconvenience for you. Thank you for all of your information and your patience with me.

I hope that that will be the solution to the uPnP 'issue'. If it isn't, I don't know what it will be :(

I think that you have to enable the DMZ, via the router's [web?]page... What colour is the incoming port's light (it's located at the botttom right-hand corner)?

Asignación de puertos NAT: Error [uPNP device not found!]

NAT General Setup

  • Note :
Maximum number of NAT/firewall sessions for the router is 8192. To remove the per user limit, set to 8192.

Hello forum friends.

Thanks to Tripoide's comment, I was able to open the listen port from the 192.168.1.1 page (I had to install Firefox 22.0). I entered the password that I had changed in the Alejandra portal. Once inside the router, I went to the "Network Setting>NAT>DMZ", where it says "Default Server Address". I put in my IP address (when I saw it, it read 0.0.0.0), I entered BitComet, and the light turned green...but, when I go to Statistics, I still get this:

Listen TCP port: 25420 (Open in Firewall/Router)

Listen UDP port: 25420(Open in Firewall/Router)

Windows Firewall Added [TCP added, UDP added]

NAT ports Assignation: Error [uPnP device not found]

Disk Acceleration Service: Not installed

I, again, map the uPnP port--> I get "processing", and at the end I get "ERROR".

What is "NAT ports assignation" for, and how can I add it?

How do I install the Disk Acceleration Service and what is it for?

Having opened the listen port, the download rate doesn't surpass 100kB/s and the upload rate doesn't exceed 120 kB/s.

If I knew how to post with screenshots, it would be easier to visualize, but I don't know how to do it :(

This is what I get in "Network Setting>NAT> General":

NAT General Setup

Note :

Maximum number of NAT/firewall sessions for the router is 8192. To remove the per user limit, set to 8192.

NAT Full Feature on (this box is unchecked)

Max NAT/Firewall Session Per User (it has 3072) (512 - 8192)

And the ALG is "disable"

Do I have to modify something or add/take away something, or is everything correct?

That you for all of your input. Greetings from Spain :)

using DMZ will send ALL inbound connections to one computer. This can be very risky unless you have some very good security setup.

using uPnP is the best option, it will open the port you need when bitcomet starts. Sometimes it's not easy to get working, but when it works it's great and it will nullify the issue with your IP address changing. Logging into your router after enabling uPnP shouldn't be a problem.

By enabling DMZ you've opened over 65 thousand ports to all internet traffic. BitComet only uses one and that port is registered only to bitcomet so it's secure to open that port, but now that anyone can reach your computer on any unused port you had better have some very secure security in place.

Hello.

You also have to enable the router's firewall. The router is equipped with a firewall that will protect the network from a wide variety of common hacker attacks, including those of Ping of Death (PoD) and Denial of Service (DoS) types. You can disable the firewall's function, if necessary. Deactivating the firewall's protection will not leave the network completely exposed to hackers' attacks but, it's recommended that you enable the firewall whenever possible.

At the 192.168.1.1 address, I went into Network Configuration>LAN>uPnP, it was disabled. I activated it but it still gives me the error in the NAT Port Assignation in BitComet.

You also have to enable uPnP in windows. The only link I could find that explains how to do this was in English but you can have a look and see if you can understand it, or you can seek help in the movistar forum as I suggested before.

A router firewall is different than a software firewall, it blocks connections using NAT and when you put a computer into DMZ you're disabling the firewall.

If a router really did have a bi-directional software firewall it would be extremely difficult to deal with as software firewalls need to be constantly adjusted any time you install software or update existing software and your firmware would need to be updated regularly to address security updates, however as far as I'm aware, all routers have only a hardware firewall.

Windows firewall will give you some protection, but only against incoming threats. Without anything to watch traffic that is leaving you could get your computer hijacked and not even know it.

Usually an experienced user can manage with just windows firewall if they have a good router and they haven't put the computer in DMZ, but when running in DMZ it's like not having a router at all and a good firewall is a must. There are some good free ones. I haven't used any lately but I recall Outpost Firewall was pretty good. One of my favorites was Sygate Firewall, it was so good that one of the major security companies bought it just to stop the competition. It hasn't been developed in years so I don't know if it's still safe to use, but it would stop anything. The only annoying thing about it was you had to approve or deny every connection your computer makes and if you don't understand what they are, it can be tiresome to look up each and every one.

It had many nice features and unlike most commercial firewalls you could see everything it was allowing or blocking. Most today try to hide what they do and make you hunt for the options to view or make changes. For example, on bitcomet you could see the connections to peers, to the LTseed servers, the port check test, snapshot servers, comment servers, all were listed and if you wanted you could disable any of them. This wouldn't be necessary for an app like BitComet because you can turn all these features on or off, but many apps today don't let you turn things on and off, like apps that have embedded advertisements, you could block the requests to load ads, or searches for updates, or even block windows from connection to their "genuine advantage" spyware app they used to trick people into installing. A bi-directional firewall can be a very useful tool for an experienced user.

I did the steps in the English page that you sent me.

I went into BitComet and hit 'map a uPnP port' again.

TCP listen port : 25420 (Open in Firewall/Router)

UDP Listen port: 25420 (Open in Firewall/Router)

Windows Firewall Added [TCP added, UDP added]

NAT Ports Assignation: Added [MitraStar (http://www.mitrastar.com/)]

Disk Acceleration Service: Not Installed

The downloads are still slow. Might it be because I don't have the Disk Acceleration Service installed?

I want it to go as it did before, at a download rate of 1000 kB/s

Thank you for all of your support, Guardian Eagle :)

Thank you also for your kind words, and don't forget to thank Cassie, she works hard to help our international community.

It looks like you have solved you port problem and I hope you took your computer out of DMZ now that you have uPnP working so you don't have the risk of having 64k ports open to incoming traffic.

Most speed related problem are caused by the other person's ability to upload. Each peer has their own speed limitations and opening your port allows you to connect to new peers much faster which is very important because by the time you are aware of them and send them a connection attempt, they may no longer need trading partners and may reject the connection or "choke" the connection, so no trading takes place. It's also important that you reserve some of your confirm tested upload speed for communications. This is achieved by limiting your upload speed to about 80% of your global maximum. Users of fast connections like fiber optic should also increase their disc cache size to reduce load on their harddrives, this can also improve speed if the cause is disc overload. BitComet uses a conservative 6 to 50mb cache size because many people don't like to see apps consume a lot of Ram memory, but in your case I'd suggest much higher settings. Exactly how much depends on how much ram you have, how much you generally use and how much free ram you have. There is no simple formula to calculate how much, but you could probably multiple both of the default settings by a factor of 10.

Lastly, some tasks will always be slow and there is nothing you can do about it, but with the right settings and your port open, you can get the best speeds possible. Try other torrents.

Good evening, Forum.

First of all, I thank you for your patience with me, your translations and your way of explaining things. You're an "A-1" team.

Guardian Eagle: Thankyou very much for all ofyour support, links and explanations., your patience and having wasted your time with me. :)

Cassie: Thank you for the English to Spanish translations... the last thing that Guardian Eagle told me, I had to use the browser's own translator and, honestly, there was something that I didn't understand...if you could do me the favor of properly translating it for me, I would appreciate it quite a bit. :)

That 'stuff' about 'peers' and seeds, I don't know how any of that works. Would I have to make another post about it, so that you could explain what each thing is and what it's for, etc. ?

Abd regarding the 'torrents', what torrent page would you recommend? I have a few of them chosen but, I want one that will work well as far as downloading and that won't have problems with 'seeds'and 'leech'. Which has a better chance of dowloading?... a video that has more seeds than leechers, or the other way around? For a very high possibility of downloading, does it have to have a high seed count or leech count?

Can you tell me if I have to ask all of this in another post (I'm writing it so that you can give me more information about this) :)

This being said, thank you very, very much. You're a great team. Greetings from Spain and, once again, thank you :)

Buenas noches.

Good evening.

Since, at the moment, I don't have the time to make another new tutorial where I explain all of the bittorrent protocol jargon, I'm going to leave you the link to wikipedia (in Spanish), where they explain what each term means and its function is--> https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

Note: Bear in mind that, instead of using "point" (as wikipedia does) to translate "peer", I prefer to use "par" (this is to say, another user, just like you, with a computer the same as yours and a 'domestic/private' connection, just like yours)... as the correct term for a "peer" is that of someone who is "similar".

Good morning.

Cassie, I thank you for the information, wholeheartedly.

You'll have to excuse my clumsyness as, what you said in the Note, I sincerely didn't understand at all. :(
