howtin
Hello, I'm using Windows XP SP2, BitComet 0.70, with the Kaspersky firewall. I only have one computer at home, so I use a modem for DSL, no router. I started using the Kaspersky firewall a few days ago and there was no problem. But today all the "remote" in the initiation in the peer tab are gone. In the firewall, I have already made rules to allow for BitComet all TCP and UDP activity. I wonder what's going on all of a sudden. Please advice. In BitComet's logs, it says (I replaced some numbers with X for privacy): Windows XP WF Status: TCP Port is not opened in Windows Firewall. Windows XP WF Status: add TCP port in Windows Firewall Succeed. Windows XP WF Status: UDP Port is not opened in Windows Firewall. Windows XP WF Status: add UDP port in Windows Firewall Succeed. kluelos
Funny, but BitComet and Windows think you're using a router.
howtin
Funny, but BitComet and Windows think you're using a router. But I'm only using a modem, it is SpeedStream 4200, it says that it is an ADSL modem. Any suggestion to solve the problem? I just tried canyouseeme.org and typed in my port # (60002), but it can't see the port. So my port is still blocked despite the fact that I set the rules in my firewall? (Posts Mergered) This is very strange. All of a sudden, things are working fine now! There are "remote" in my peer tab now. And when I go to canyouseeme.org, it can see my port. I didn't do any configuration at all! This is the log now: Windows XP WF Status: TCP Port is not opened in Windows Firewall. Windows XP WF Status: add TCP port in Windows Firewall Succeed. Windows XP WF Status: UDP Port is not opened in Windows Firewall. Windows XP WF Status: add UDP port in Windows Firewall Succeed. May someone tell me what's going on? I fear the same problem may appear. I'd like to know whether I can have control over it. Soraiya
Hm weird...are you sure that it's a modem? From that script, we're seeing you as a Router user.
howtin
Oh, I did some research on the web, and just realized that the model of my modem is also a router. So that may be the problem? But I don't understand why port 60002 was blocked one hour ago, and now it is unblocked, whereas I didn't do anything at all. Do I have any control over this at all? I'm confused. Soraiya
Whoa...weird. Well yes, you can control it via your router's webpage (i.e. 192.168.2.1) Then, there should be a page there for Application Control (other names could be: Virtual Server, Virtual Client). From there on, you can follow my PortForward steps. Hm, if PortForward.com hasn't listed your router there, then it's either very new, or very old. Try and have a look at your router's manual for anything related to Virtual Server / Portforwarding / Port Triggering
howtin
Holy crap! I followed the instructions in the modem/router's manual, then I quickly realized that my ISP (Bell Sympatico) has fooled around with my modem before (I'm renting the modem from them), and all the options of the modem are now locked. I can't do configurations on it, so I can't do the port forwarding trick. I still wonder what made the difference: sometimes the port was blocked, some other times it was opened. If the port was blocked, what will the worst scenario be? Will I still be able to download, but only with a relatively slow download rate? I don't know what to do, sigh. But the good news is that it is working fine now, for whatever reasons. I just worry that it will stop working properly again in the foreseeable future. Dark_Shroud
But I'm only using a modem, it is SpeedStream 4200, it says that it is an ADSL modem. This is fine, yes that is a modem only. And lucky for you I'm familiar with that Speed Stream model. Frist turn off UPnP in BitComet, you don't need it and its only causeing trouble. If you need to access the modem's settings you can do this at "192.168.0.1," the modem access code is on the bottom of the modem. Do not mess with anything at the moment since you most likely do not need to. So my port is still blocked despite the fact that I set the rules in my firewall? What Firewall are you using? If it's XP-SP2 then you're fine. Just delete the rule you made and the port entires so we can start over. This is taken from our FAQ under DHT: For Windows Firewall only users: People who use Windows XP SP-2 firewall need to make sure exceptions are allowed. BitComet will add the ports for you when the following setting "Enable NAT/Firewall Configuration in ICS/ICF (XP only)" is turned on in Preferences > Advanced > Connections.
