You can use acohol 52% also, (its the free version) Daemon tools also has a good set of virtual drives too.

First off, thank you Bit-Torrent, simply for existing. Hours of entertainment provided from your efforts, and the fam appreciates it.

So, here's ONE of the minor issues I am experiencing. Can't get my DVD player to play movies after I burn them. I use WinAVI to convert them from .avi to .mpeg2 (is that correct?) I tried converting them to DVD, but I ended up with .ifo(?) files, and they didn't work either. Could someone please give a step by step to so I can burn these and get them off my hard drive. I'm runnin out of room.

Here's what I'm using: Windows 7 Ultimate 64X, WinAvi 7, Nero burning rom 10

If it's easier to email me instructions, then feel free, as to not clog up the forum with info that's been repeated over and over, though I couldn't find any specific to this for myself

kingneo, the first thing you want to do is to start your own topic. It's not good form to jump into the middle of someone else's topic like this, because then nobody's sure who is being talked to or which issue is being addressed. It's also pretty rude, like walking into the middle of a conversation and changing the subject.

The next thing is to read. This whole area is covered in the FAQ and recovered in the forums, and addressed in depth on the internet generally.

Hi,

We'd be glad to help you learn to re-encode your videos, if that is really what you want to do, but I think if you objectively look at what your trying to do, the best solution would be to find a way to play modern video formats, rather then converting modern video back to decades old formats.

The only reason I ever convert video to DVD format (1990s technology) is if I need to make the video compatible with everyone's dvd player. Most traditional (standard resolution) video shared on the internet these days uses Xvid codecs packaged in an .avi container. These videos can be played in any DivX compatible DVD player. You can buy one of these for as little as $30usd for a refurbished unit or as little as $50 for a new unit. If you want to play High Definition Video, then a player like MvixUSA's Ultio Pro would be my first choice, or a Western Digital Live TV box will play them just as well for about half the cost.

However, if you still want to convert your video, then make a new topic and we'll try to help you.

ps. Kluelos's reply was not condescending, nor was it rude. He is a volunteer that offers his time freely to users, and if you focus on the fact that he took his time to help you, not on the fact that he asked you to follow rules and not discuss it in another members topic, then it won't appear rude at all, simply assisting you as much as possible until you make a proper topic where your issues can be discussed.

Yeah... I was in kind of a pissy mood the other day, so I apologize. Thanks for the assistance, the purpose of converting them is my external player doesn't play DivX or anything other than standard format. Pain in the butt, but I'll figure it out.

I apologize again for MY short and condescending reply. If I may make a suggestion, since I am sure I'm not the only person to make the same mistake, if the person assisting might include the URL specific to the answer when instructing where to post the question, it might make it easier on all parties. Just a thought, since you guys tend to be far more familiar with the forum and how to navigate it.

Thank you, very much

an .ifo file is a small text file that dvd players use to know how to properly display the menus and play the .vob files. If your encoding software creates a folder called "video_ts" with .ifo, .vob, .bup files in it, they are raw dvd files and can be burned onto a dvd disc within the video_ts folder. You can also use Nero, find the option "burn dvd files on your harddrive".

There is probably also an option to save your project as an .iso file. This is a disc image and can be burned with any disc burning software.

Also, you may want to look at a guide I authored over 5 years ago called "AVI to DVD with Nerovision" (guides and tutorials section). It was prepared with Nero 7 (old version), but it covers making DVD video out of pretty much any source video you can find on the internet.
